History of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method of treatment which involves the use of acupuncture needles to help treat many illnesses. For thousands of years, it has been accepted by the general population for a number of reasons. Some of these include: good curative effects, wide range of indications, simple applications, low cost and safety.

The needles are inserted into the skin at specific points on the body in order to achieve the desired effect. These needles are also thinly shaped to slide smoothly under the tissues and avoid damage to sourrounding areas. There are many uses for Acupuncture, some of which include: improving well being, strength, mood, energy and relieving the pain of current and previous injuries.

Acupuncture points are places in the skin which have a lower resistence to the electrical currents that map their way throughout the body. These points, in turn, are a part of a larger network which have all been mapped out in ancient times by Chinese practitioners. The Acupuncture points can be found by means of indentifying anatomical points. It is through these points that bodily systems may be manipulated to re-balance the body as a whole.

This energy is know as 'Qi' (pronounced 'Chee'). A person's health is influenced by the flow of Qi in the body, in combination with the universal force of Yin and Yang. If the flow of Qi is insufficient, disturbed or interrupted, the Yin and Yang become unbalanced. As a result, an illness may occur.
